MDIS was contacted by the historic Amway Grand Hotel in Grand Rapids, MI who was requesting assistance updating audio-visual systems in multiple executive boardrooms in order to incorporate state-of-the-art video conferencing capabilities to use during the Covid-19 pandemic. This project was uniquely challenging for multiple reasons; first the customer had 4-6 week turnaround time from design, sign-off, install, and programming for “turn-key” custom automation system. This was nearly impossible “ask” during the midst of the 2020-21 Pandemic from a procurement / supply chain and installation standpoint with all government sanctioned shutdowns. MDIS is proud to say successfully completed and blew away customers expectations.

MDIS designed a unique solution quoting and sourcing “equipment readily available” with all supply shortages going on by working very closely with its most trusted vendors and distributors to source equipment in stock that would meet the clients impossible quickly approaching deadline. LG Commercial 24/7 500-nit UH-Series 98” and 65” displays were chosen to update all the existing legacy plasma display screens in the conferencing areas. Participants in the rooms are easily engaging in video conferencing using the Atlona 1080P PTZ Cameras in these spaces and built-in “Zoom Room” of the system. New Bose EdgeMax EM90 and EM180 speakers were delicately retrofitted into venetian plaster finished ceilings in the two larger executive boardrooms, and Bose FreeSpace 70V ceiling speakers in drop ceilings of two smaller meeting spaces. ClearOne beamforming microphones were outfitted in every conference room using the BMA-360 ceiling microphones paired with ClearOne Converge Pro2 DSP to provide impeccable audio both in the room and for participants on the other end of conference calls.

The rooms, which were all outfitted with Atlona automation systems with HD video switching and IP video distribution, are easily controlled and manipulated using 10” tabletop and wall mount touch panels in the four different executive boardroom spaces as well as the client's iPad. The clients can connect single or multiple sources simultaneously to the displays outfitted in the room from a mixture of wired and wireless, and in room PC video sources. During large events, the rooms can be used independently or all merged together into a single system so the auxiliary rooms can be used as “overflow” spaces for large events.

MDIS is proud to have been able to help the client maintain its business and engage with its employees / customers during the pandemic and assist with its integration of these video con fencing functionality required to do business in today's “working remote” Covid-19 world environment.
