MDIS was contacted by a strategic partner of ours, Birdseye Communications, to help one of the big three US auto manufacturers to add surveillance systems to their post production parking lots. At any point in time, there are thousands of freshly produced pickup trucks and vehicles waiting to be loaded up and transported to car dealerships around the country.

MDIS was tasked with providing comprehensive surveillance coverage of a gigantic paved concrete area, without the ability to run new power or run new data cabling. To get power to our equipment, MDIS tapped into the 480V electric that was run to each light pole around the enormous parking lot, using step down transformers, photocels, and buck-boost transformers.

Using a point to multi point Ubiquiti wireless bridge system, featuring Ubiquiti Nano and Ubiquiti Rocket Prism Wireless Access Points (WAP), MDIS was able to achieve uplink to each security pole location, despite their being great distances away.

On the light poles, MDIS mounted security cameras, amplifiers, NEMA enclosures, microphones, and network horns, so that CCTV monitoring operators can speak through the camera locations to address anybody that they need to.

In addition to the light pole cameras, MDIS installed “access stations” that have video of drivers, their plates, access credential verification, and two way audio to communicate with operators. Operators have the ability to open or close the retracting gate, depending on if the person is authorized to enter.

All equipment is stored using heated and air conditioned NEMA enclosures that will battle the harsh weather conditions in the SE Michigan area. Furthermore, everything is locked and secured to prevent tampering.

MDIS is proud to have installed a camera system that will aid in the production and distribution of Detroit-built automobiles, the same automobiles which have made the city known worldwide as the “Motor City” or “MoTown.”
