MDIS was contacted by a local Detroit restaurateur who needed help designing, furnishing, and installing the low voltage and security systems for the 1st “100% shipping container constructed” restaurant in downtown Detroit. This was a particularly fun and challenging project that is a personal favorite of MDIS technicians and staff alike. MDIS assisted the customer with it’s audio-visual, multi-room audio, digital signage, structured cabling, wired/wireless networking, and security systems of this one of a kind new construction shipping container restaurant.

A “thundering” multiroom audio system with 70V pendant speakers and pendant subwoofers made by JBL was installed to provide sound in the indoor dining room, outdoor beer garden, upstairs event spaces, patio, and exterior parking lot. The system can easily be controlled from lower level main bair areas, or second level admin office from an intuitive touch panel that allows you control sources, and volume levels in each of the (5 zones). Secure/Guest WiFi systems were implemented using Arakanis networking equipment and Araknis Wireless Access Points. Exterior WiFi for a secure guest network was established using Arkanis “Outdoor-rated” access points. Phillips 16/7 commercial displays with BrightSign digital signage players were selected to provide content in art gallery spaces to introduce artists for it’s remote capabilities to update content through network and easily configured. A dozen large-format HD-TV’s and cable boxes were carefully placed in the different bar, dinning, and event spaces so you never miss a beat or a goal from your favorite sports team using Samsung Professional displays paired with Vanco HDMI matrixing system. The TV’s can play content independently or be synced to the same source to the same game during playoffs.

This project was particularly challenging because of the extensive metal drilling through shipping container walls, and the hundreds of drill bits that were sacrificed to lovingly create the numerous cabling pathways and trunk lines required for all the technology the space demanded.

MDIS is proud of this beautiful, creative, fun recreation/retail/dining space, and are glad to have been part of adding this well-known “gem” to the City of Detroit.
